The long-awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3 was finally published by CD Projekt Red earlier this month. This update improves the game’s lighting, effects, and graphic quality and adds some new material influenced by the Witcher TV series that is available on Netflix. It was a good update for fans, but what if you like physical media and want to buy the new native Xbox Series X/S and PS5 editions of The Witcher 3 on disc? What are your options?
Recently, rumors began to spread that physical copies of The Witcher 3 – Complete Edition for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 will be available. CD Projekt Red has now published a statement to Insider Gaming confirming that these versions will indeed be released…
“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition will get a physical release in late January 2023, according to CD Projekt Red’s current plans. It will be obtainable for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. A DVD containing the core game and the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions will be included in the package you purchase.
This collection will also include all official downloadable content and updates made available by CD Projekt Red over the last seven years. This consists of the free next-gen update, which includes scores of improvements to the game’s visuals, performance, and technical aspects (including ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, various mods integrated into the experience, and much more). The CD described above is the only thing that will be included in the package. Retailers in each region are responsible for determining pricing and inventory levels.
According to a rumor from Insider Gaming, the pricing range for The Witcher 3 will be somewhere between $30 and $35, and the release date is set for January 26. Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has not yet commented on the price or the release date. Until the CDPR verifies them, you should take these specifics with a very little grain of salt.
PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch are all compatible platforms for playing The Witcher 3. Additionally, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 are the only platforms currently supporting next-gen features (get more detail on them here).
